PARTNERS FOR RESOURCE AND COMMUNITY CONNECT (PARC) formerly Luhwahwa Youth Development Foundation (LUYODEFO) is a children oriented non-profit organization that provides support to marginalized communities across the Rwenzori region of western Uganda. Founded as a students’ discussion group in 2003 and gradually evolved into a community based organization (charity) in 2006 in response to the plight of communities impacted greatly by the prolonged war and other detriments, such as HIV/AIDS and high poverty levels. The idea to form this organization was to create a platform for empowering resource poor people while connecting vulnerable children to socio-health and economic opportunities otherwise unattainable – better preparing them for the professional world and be able to contribute to sustainable development among the marginalized, underprivileged and underserved communities.

WHY WE ARE UNIQUE?

OUR APPROACH

PARC’s strategy is to extend further than being a charity hence empowering locals through “hand-up” not “hand-outs”; but rather we aim to adopt a win-win concept of using social business (social business ventures) not only to fund social services projects but also to creating employment opportunities for the people within the communities we serve. To achieve this, all the above core program areas are being implemented through the so called ‘HYBRID Model’ that involves two (2) basic approaches;-

The social services model:

This ensures that all children and youth are protected from risks and/ or abuse and are supported to go to school, youth and women to find training opportunities for gainful employment, and families are empowered to be able to meet their basic need and support their own children.

The social business model:

This involves initiatives that address critical local needs while empowering the villagers to actively involve in the development of their communities. While all operations follow ordinary business practices, all proceeds go into addressing local needs and creating an stable incomes for organisation.
