Social Volunteer
Social Volunteering
Through our work, we have realized that volunteers are an integral part of everything that happens. Many small, local organizations are doing great work to help people, but often constrained by lack of committed people with different skills.
To address this, we are developing SOCIAL VOLUNTEERING project to help in sourcing international volunteers to help with programs and projects working in Kasese district. PARC-Uganda will therefore recruit and host willing, non-skilled and skilled international volunteers to help in expansion and stabilization of our programs as well as other local organisations.
At PARC-Uganda, we’re ethically promoting community-based development, and do not support orphanages!. We are a hybrid organization, not a charity and we are investing in social business to be able to provide quality social services. We are committed to aid in the development of self-reliant, locally run projects which effectively address the most pressing needs of at high risk individual, families and communities.
This project goal is to support grassroots projects that break the cycles of poverty, while offering travelers life-skills and life changing cultural immersion. Volunteering in Uganda with us is an amazing way to gain an insight into the culture of our beautiful country. Perhaps equally important is the “knowledge exchange”: helping people from a remote African community gain a greater understanding of the wider world (and vice versa).
PARC-Uganda does not charge program fees but volunteers shall be responsible for expenses related to local transport and living costs in Uganda. In addition, they are expected to make a small financial contribution towards the work of PARC-Uganda.
AVAILABLE OPPORTUNITIES
We have opportunities to engage with the community in fields of Education, Health and Wellness, Skill training, Conservation and Climate Change, and Organisation support. Our program activities are flexible, and by directly engaging in them, you will be part of the community.
BENEFITS OF VOLUNTEERING WITH US:
- We do not charge any fees for the program, but expect volunteers to make donations towards our work.
- We’re ran by volunteers, so all your donations directly supports local projects—100%.
- We offer a certificate to each volunteer after successful volunteering, which adds to your CV.
- Being near tourist destinations, and running community eco-tourism offers opportunity to combine volunteerism with adventure.
TRIP EXPENSES
We do not provide financial resources to volunteers, so they will have to cover all your costs of getting to Uganda, transportation and staying here.
BOARD AND LODGING
We organize accommodation at school or with host family (if the volunteer desires homestay). There is currently NO internet connection installed, but it is possible to access mobile internet (via smart phone / tablet) through the telecom service providers.
Volunteers get 3 daily meals a day. A meal typically consist of local foods, such as matooke (mashed plantain), posho (corn meal), cassava, rice, chapatti, and sweet potatoes. They are generally served with peas, beans, fish, meat or groundnut sauce. Bread and tea are the usual breakfast.
SAFETY
So far nothing has happened to any of our visitors or volunteers. However, it should not be forgotten that, we work in a country where a lot of people live in absolute poverty. Robberies and other criminal acts occur again and again. There are certain rules and safety measures to be followed in everyday life to avoid theft related incidents. These will be communicated as part of orientation to all volunteers.
SELECTION PROCESS
To ensure a great volunteer experience and to help deliver successful projects, we want to ensure that you’re a great fit for us and we’re a great fit for you – so we will also hold interviews for volunteer applicants.

What Our Volunteers Over the World Are Saying
I have made several annual trips to volunteer at PARC!. Whether engaging with their school, one of their sustainability programs or engaging directly with community members, your time will be spent doing something with impact and a powerful experience anchored in human connection and sustainable practices. I highly recommend visiting the good people of PARC in Uganda, whom I consider family." Matthew Manning - USA
