Sponsor A Child
For many families who live hand-to-mouth, the chances that they can pay for their children’s education are next to nothing. Many of the parents in the villages we serve are illiterate and besides having little hope of substantially changing their lives, they do not value sending a child to school but instead send them to the farms and engage them into early marriages. The orphaned children are the most affected! Even for children with all parents, typically the father is not responsible and the mother moves from job to job in distant villages so the care for these children comes down to grandparents. Most of these caretakers grow vegetables is a small garden to sell at the market and more often than not, this income is not enough even for basic needs.
Uganda has about of 21 million children, translating to 46%of the total population. Many of these children are trapped in poverty and are not able to access education. This situation has been made worse by COVID-19 pandemic, where some parents lost their business / jobs due to prolonged lockdown and the long closure of schools that exposed many children to abuse and exploitation.
According to UNICEF, around 1 in 10 school children did not return to school in January 2022 after Ugandan schools were closed for nearly 2 year. Out of the 91% children that enroll for primary school, 53% complete primary and only 34% complete secondary school.
We believe that access to quality education and healthcare is the key to helping children break out of poverty. For that reason, educational child sponsorship is the heart of our OVC support program. Together with local leaders and social workers, PARC identifies orphans and other children from neediest families and offer them a scholarship to attend school. When you sponsor a child, you not only empower children to utilize their full potential but also directly help to break the cycle of poverty in Uganda.

How are needy children identified?
Our team closely work with community leaders and social workers to identify orphans and needy children at risk of not getting education.
